Conklin's Premier Acrylic Roof Coating

Benchmark is the ultimate combination of flexibility and strength. Resistance to air pollutants and ultraviolet degradation makes it a great choice for the toughest projects.  This 100-percent acrylic coating meets or exceeds requirements of most major code organizations, including Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Factory Mutual, Miami-Dade, and the International Code Conference. Benchmark also earns the ENERGY STAR rating and an 85 percent solar reflective value for maximum energy efficiency.

For use with these roofing systems: MR | Fabric | Foam

Does this product cover a concrete roof with tar and gravel, or would I need to remove the gravel prior to installation?

We have several systems that require Benchmark base coat and Benchmark top coat, but any gravel would have to be removed prior to the installation of these systems. Please call the Conklin Roofing Systems Division for details: 800-888-8838.

What are the application rates for Conklin coatings over sprayed-in-place polyurethane roofing foam?

Conklin has three coatings suitable for application over sprayed polyurethane roofing foam: Benchmark®, Rapid Roof III®, and PUMA® XL.

PUMA XL is a revolutionary single-coat polyurethane modified acrylic that can be applied in one coat. This material is used with Benchmark base coat and is applied at 1.9 gallons per square (100 square feet) at a minimum dry film thickness (dft) of 13.5 mils. Application rates are dependent on the smoothness of the foam surface. Rougher foam surfaces will require additional coating.

Benchmark base and top coats are each applied at a rate of 1.9 gallons per 100 square feet. Minimum dry mil thickness for base coat is 13.5 mils. Minimum dry mil thickness for top coat is 13.5 mils. The total coating thickness should be no less than 27 dry mils. Application rates are dependent on the smoothness of the foam surface. Rougher foam surfaces will require additional coating.

Rapid Roof III base and top coats are each applied at a rate of 1.9 gallons per 100 square feet. Minimum dry mil thickness for base coat is 12 mils. Minimum dry mil thickness for top coat is 13 mils. The total coating thickness should be no less than 25 dry mils. Application rates are dependent on the smoothness of the foam surface.

Is a spore of mold able to get through pores in Benchmark or Rapid Roof and grow?

When applied properly, both Benchmark and Rapid Roof form a monolithic film that would not have "holes" to promote the growth of mold.

These roof coatings are considered breathable to allow moisture vapor transmission to pass through them, but this function is separate from a mold spore growing in/on a coating. The mold could take hold and spread from dirt and other contaminants ON the surface of the coating, but would not grow IN the coating.

Can I apply Conklin spray foam insulation?

Knowledgeable applicators and special equipment are required for application of spray-in-place foam (SPF). The product consists of two components. The mixing ratio is 1:1. The two components are heated and mixed at the spray gun.

The mixed material emerges as a liquid and froths into a layer of foam. The foam becomes hard within seconds. Benchmark or Rapid Roof lll is then applied to protect the foam from the elements. Please call 800.888.8838 and ask for one of the Roofing Systems Products Specialists for further information.
