The Challenge

The performance and health of your livestock is dependent upon the proper balance of digestive tract bacteria. Newborn animals and newly-hatched birds enter the world with a sterile digestive tract, which is quickly populated with health-promoting bacteria and the much quicker growing, pathogenic bacteria and viruses. Unfortunately, feed and environmental changes, birthing/laying, weaning, medication and transporting, among other common management practices alter the intestinal environment in ways that favor the disease-causing organisms of animals and birds of any age.

The Answer: Fastrack® Direct-fed Microbials — The Natural Way

The unique combination of natural, live lactic acid-producing bacteria, FOS, yeast, enzymes, vitamins and specialized proteins in the Fastrack® products helps to ensure a healthy digestive tract; enhancing the immune system and defending against pathogenic agents in the digestive tract. Specifically the health-promoting Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium in the animals ‘and birds’ small and large intestines utilize FOS.

What are probiotics?

The word “probiotic” literally means “for life” – and is the opposite of the word antibiotic. Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that are needed in the GI tract, whereas antibiotics are used to attack and kill infections and unwanted bacteria. Probiotics that are used for animals are referred to as direct-fed microbials (DFMs).

Why use direct-fed microbials?

An animal’s digestive tract contains thousands of microorganisms – both desirable and undesirable.

Without these organisms, an animal’s digestive tract could not function properly. Animals have an extremely complex collection of bacteria; some are beneficial and some are pathogenic. Under challenging conditions such as stress, traveling and antibiotic therapy, the natural balance of digestive tract bacteria can be altered. The number of pathogenic

organisms may increase while the beneficial organisms decrease, leading to digestive challenges including diarrhea, constipation and discomfort. DFMs help restore microflora balance in the gut to appropriate levels and improve the overall health of the animal.

When to use Fastrack® direct-fed microbials

Conklin’s Fastrack direct-fed microbials provide a live, naturally-occurring source of microorganisms to maintain the appropriate balance of microflorain the GI tract, and are especially beneficial:

• During incidences of diarrhea

• At weaning and other feed changes

• During and following antibiotic therapy

• During periods of environmental stresses

• During and following hospital treatment including surgery

• As part of an overall health maintenance program

• To supplement desirable organisms in newborn animals

Components that make up the Fastrack® products:

LAB – lactic acid bacteria – inhabit the digestive tract and increase nutrient absorption.

Live yeast or yeast culture – produces B vitamins, enzymes, and other beneficial substances whiledenying oxygen to the pathogenic organisms. Yeast culture provides metabolites to support the proper balance of digestive tract microflora.

Six Enzymes – hydrolyze nutrients to be absorbed by the digestive tract.

Dried chicory root – nourishes the beneficial bacteria in the lower GI tract.

Specialized proteins – aid the immune system in protecting against specific disease-causing pathogens.

Conklin the Better Bet for this Vet

Dr. Michael & Susan Brown

Dr. Michael Brown has been a veterinarian for over 25 years. He owns his own clinic, employs 13 staff members and treats hundreds of his four-legged patients annually. Also blessed with a beautiful wife and daughter, most in similar situations would be satisfied with a full life.

But not Dr. Brown.

He recognized a life-changing opportunity while caring for a very sick colt with colitis. When the patient recovered rapidly after treatment with Conklin’s Fastrack® Equine Gel, Dr. Brown was amazed. Convinced the colt would not have survived without Fastrack, he set about learning much more about Conklin, the manufacturer of Fastrack animal nutrition products.

He already knew that Fastrack is a world leader in animal probiotics, which are remarkably effective in keeping animals healthy. What he had not realized was that he could sell them in his practice and generate additional income.

A Match for His Ambition

But when Dr. Brown “crunched the numbers” the results really got his attention. He calculated his potential earnings in five years as a Conklin IBO would surpass his total earnings as a veterinarian over 15 to 20 years!

Knowing those Conklin dollars would provide residual income for years, even after he and his wife Susan were retired – his decision was made.

Dr. Brown threw himself into learning about Conklin’s wide variety of products, promoting them to his vast network of contacts, and attracting, training and coaching Conklin team members. His success at building a Conklin organization was soon evident with his rapid ascent up the Conklin management ranks.

He designed his own step-by-step IBO training program which has produced multiple success stories, massive momentum and dovetailed perfectly with Conklin’s corporate-sponsored trainings.

As motivated as he is to expand his business horizons, Dr. Brown is also dedicated to help others create their own American dream. His generous teaching, selling and support of Conklin IBOs, whether they’re part of his team or not, earned he and his wife Conklin’s prestigious Spirit of Conklin Award.

Within just a few years, Dr. Brown has achieved Director level status. Not one to rest on his laurels, he pushes himself daily to learn more, teach more and tell the Conklin story to all who can benefit from it.

Veterinarian Testimonials

Jeff Leech announced that Juliette's Phatham Stock received a 3rd place award in Lexington at 2005 the Kentucky State Fair, American Saddlebred World Championship. This colt is owned by Federal Judge Karon Bowdre, and from the crowd reaction was obviously the favorite in the ring for this performance.

"Stock" is a one year old, black colt, (black is unusual for Saddlebreds with chestnut being the more common color). This yearling is very fancy and proud, a magnificent animal to watch. And he has a history...Born March 04, 2005. By June 04 he had already experienced the dreaded stress complicated foal diarrhea, followed by pneumonia, and then followed  with stress and antibiotic induced diarrhea. This diarrhea was so severe that the clinical diagnosis of fatal colitis was rendered. Transferred to Dr. Michael Brown at Arab Veterinary Hospital late in June 04, this colt was manually carried into the treatment area; 5 days of intensive care gave little additional hope. The farm management made the unhappy arrangements for burial, as death loomed certain. On day 5, Dr. Brown initiated additional treatments consisting of the entire line of Equine Fastrack products. On day 6 with IV catheters, fluids, medications and assistance, this courageous colt for the first time stood as his "second mother" and owner visited. The next several days were amazing as strength returned and medications were tapered.

Today, a year later, he is a picture of health, and a walking testament to the power of owner prayer, proper medical care, good genetics, determined trainers and Fastrack Equine Products. It is news worthy for a world champion contender to win while using the Fastrack products. but it truly amazing for an all but dead colt to walk, show and place at a world show when living just one more day was his largest battle only a year ago.

"This colt, more than any other, has proven to me the benefits of these equine products"

I am an equine exclusive veterinarian and have been in practice for 23 years. Over the last several years, we’ve utilized Fastrack Microbials in our practice. We prescribe it for a variety of conditions where we feel absorption or utilization of nutrients may be a favor in promoting greater health. These include weight problems, intermittent or chronic diarrhea or thin/shelly feet. We give it routinely when horses are given oral antibiotics to help maintain a healthy gut flora. Horses take Fastrack readily and it represents excellent value for our clients. To my knowledge, we have experienced no complications from its use.

I have a reasonable percentage of Endurance clients in my practice and have seen a lot of products tried and eventually discarded. Fastrack has proven to have "staying power". Clients who use it notice results and continue its use. There are so many supplements available to riders today making it difficult to decide which to use. With Fastrack, I know that my clients and their horses are receiving a quality product that really works.

I have been using Fastrack microbial products in my veterinary practice for several years. They have proven to be extremely beneficial in the management of a variety of gastrointestinal disorders of our patients and are an integral part of our health maintenance programs.
