Help Using the Site Search Engine
The Conklin® Website has many different types of information.
How to use each type of search
For best results on ALL types of search, do NOT use quotes ("") around multi-word search terms. Be sure to select a radio button for the type of search you want before typing keywords in the field.
Products/Company InformationUse words to search for information. These pages contain mostly general information rather than details about specific products, so you’re most likely to find what you need using "generic” words or phrases like increase yields or interior paints rather than brand names like Feast® or WallKote.®Use filters to search more preciselyYou can focus your search more tightly using “filters” such as the wildcard symbol (*) or the Boolean filters AND and OR. (They must be capitalized.)Sometimes the wild card character doesn't do what you expect. If you use * after a word "stem," such as "grow", which has many different possible endings, it will get you what you want. If you use it after a partial word, such as elasto*, it will get you what you want - links to pages with the word "elastomeric." But if you use it after a word such as "laundry," which is an entire word with no alternate endings, it will yield a "no results" message. If this happens, remove the * and try searching on just the word.To use a wildcard, type something like grow* - this will yield pages with the words “grow,” “growers,” “growth,” and “growing.” It’s a good way to find everything possible about a particular term as well as bring up good possibilities when you’re not sure of exactly how your desired information is worded. The Boolean filters AND and OR tend to confuse most people using them for the first time. We humans generally think a phrase like “cats AND dogs” will bring us all the stuff about cats plus all the stuff about dogs. However, search engines think differently. To a search engine, “cats AND dogs” means “all the stuff that talks about both cats and dogs.” To get information about both animals, use “cats OR dogs.” This tells the search engine you want anything that mentions either creature. Back to topOnline catalog by product number/SKUUse only the product number in this type of search, no words. If you don’t find the product by the number, you can try using the product name.Online catalog by product nameUse the specific brand name, e.g., “Bontz” or “Rapid Roof,” or terms describing the product, e.g., “oven and grill cleaner” or “roof coating.” You may use a product number or part of a product number along with the words on this type of search.Documents (under Additional Resources)This type of search finds the downloadable Adobe Acrobat and MS Excel files in the documents library. Using the drop-down lists, "search by product line/product:" or "search by document type:", you can see all the documents in a particular product line or all documents of a specific type such as spec sheets or usage guides. Using these types of search can result in very long lists. For more focused searches, you can use the keywords fields. For the best results from this type of search, use the most specific product name or brand name you know. For example, using “Fastrack” will bring you a list of all MSDSes, spec sheets, flyers, usage guides, and research pertaining to all Conklin animal products. The more specific your terms, the more focused your list of returns will be. A more exact term like “Fastrack canine” shows just 4 documents, as opposed to 49 for “Fastrack.” Both lists contain MSDSes, spec sheets, sell sheets, and usage guides. You can also use product numbers to find documents. A search for “50306” brings up the MSDS and spec sheet for Sanox II disinfectant. A search on just Sanox pulls up those plus the 3 usage guides for that product. A search on “Sanox 50306” however, yields nothing. So use the number by itself, then the name by itself, for best results.
